Nucleic acids are of different types, and the shape depends on teh type.

The two main categories of nucleic acids are the DNA and the RNA.
DNA is a long thin molecules made of two strands( chains) coiled in a helical way around each other. RNA is of three main types, messenger, ribosomal, and transfer. The mRNA is a ling single chain molecule. The tRNA is a three lobed shape molecule, and finally the rRNA is helical in certain ares and folded irregularly in others.
