The formula to find this is: $m = \frac{{y}_{2} - {y}_{1}}{{x}_{2} - {x}_{1}}$

$m = \frac{1 - \left(- 1\right)}{5 - \left(- 2\right)} = \frac{2}{7}$

If we had subtracted the other way round we would have ended up with
$m = \frac{- 2}{- 7} \text{ but this also simplifies to } \frac{2}{7}$
