What is the status of the Socratic app?

Has the Socratic app stabilized to the point that some of the things (like new subjects) will be resumed soon?

The Socratic app is still the number one priority of the team and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

That basically means that the website will continue to operate in "maintenance mode", which implies that the team will keep the site afloat and interact with it only if something goes wrong, i.e. to fix major bugs.

Everything else--like launching new subjects or developing new features--will have to sit on the shelf for now.

The team worked really hard to get the app to its current status, but now they're working even harder to further its development. Getting the app to the top of the list of educational apps [in fact, the Socratic app was selected as one of the Best Apps of 2017 on Google Play] was just part of the work, keeping it there is another thing altogether.

The fact that they had some major setbacks in the past months didn't help, either. For instance, some features had to be removed because they weren't as popular as the team predicted. Spending 6 to 9 months working on something that turns out to be a dud just means more time and more resources needed to pursue other ideas and develop new features and so on and so forth.

Long story short, the app is still very much in development mode, so we, the members of the community, just have to wait it out.

For how long? Nobody knows at the moment...
