What periodic table family is hydrogen in?

Chemically, in terms of valence electrons and reactivity it makes sense to place it in Group 1 because Hydrogen has 1 valence electron and can form a +1 ion (ex. ${H}^{+}$, $L {i}^{+}$, ${K}^{+}$) or behave as though it has an oxidation state of +1 (ex. when forming $H C {l}_{\left(g\right)}$)
