What two things increase the solubility of a gas in a liquid?
Temperature and pressure.
The solubility of a gas in a liquid will increase if:
- Lower the temperature of the solution , and therefore, lower the kinetic energy of the gaseous particles so they can escape the liquid phase less often.
- Increase the gas pressure above the liquid . According to Henry's law:
#C=kP#, if the pressure of the gas above the liquid increases, the concentration of the gas in the solution will also increase.
