The was much publicity during the Dust Bowl about the "eden" of California and the opportunities there for hard working people. Many of the people who migrate to California did not find an Eden.

John Steinbeck's book "The Grapes of Wrath" was a novel about one's family's migration from Oklahoma to California.

However, after the Great Depression end California did become a place of huge opportunity for many people.
