They were threatened by diseases, poverty, land seizure and deportation.

Native Americans have undergone a plight all throughout postcolumbian history. They underwent some massacres but slaughter account for very little in the population decline that occurred. The columbian exchange introduced a tremendous amount of germs such smallpox which decimated the Natives.

Lands were taken over by settlers as they emigrated. The government often used deportation to make land more available especially after 1830.
