# What would be the formula between Iron III and Sulfur?

Jan 13, 2016

$F {e}_{2} {S}_{3}$.
Iron III I has a valency of $3 +$ and sulphur, being in group 6< has a valency of $2 -$.
A molecule must have a net charge of zero and so we would need 3 sulphur atoms and 2 iron atoms in order to form a neutral molecule of Iron(III)sulphide. ($6 + \mathmr{and} 6 -$).
Hence the formula is $F {e}_{2} {S}_{3}$.
