Both ethylene glycol and ethanol are infinitely miscible with water. And I think you know the reason.

Methanol would be similarly miscible in water. On the other hand, neither ethylene glycol nor methanol are soluble in petroleum ether. Ethanol is soluble in petroleum ether. Can you account for these solubilities?
