The British Empire

Explanation:

The British Empire imposed taxes on American settlers despite their having no legal representation in the British Parliament. Several acts were passed in the years 1760s and 1770s(Stamp Act, Tea Act, Townshend Act) to thrust new taxations on the colonists.

It was regarded as an injustice and this is what triggered the Revolutionary war, it also explained the slogan "No Taxation without Representation".

For the British, the insurection was unjustified since the colonies were so prosperous that the taxes were not so scandalous and Britain had debts due to the Seven Years' War with France(1756-1763).
