A baby is far less developed than us in many ways.
Explanation:
-
It does not have teeth which serve a great role in masticating the food well.
-
It's bones are not well developed which also include the jaw bone which also aids in mastication.
When the baby starts developing teeth and the jaws start hardening due to deposition of calcium, he can take up solid food like anyone.
