By definition, a pollutant is a negative impact on an ecosystem.

Explanation:

Ultimately it interferes with the normal balanced interactions that support life.
Air pollution will adversely impact respiration for necessary life and health, and may also have other physical impacts on animal and plant life.
Water pollution adversely affects the health of any life-form requiring water (all of them, of course), as it transfers the pollutant to the user's body.
Soil pollution impacts health similarly to water pollution.
