Would it be possible to see how many times an answer has been viewed by other people?

It seems that whenever you look at an answer, regardless of whether you answered (or contributed to) it yourself, it counts as a "view". It would be nice to be able to tell how many times other people have viewed it - i.e. discounting any times you have viewed it yourself.

Is there enough information currently stored in your database to make this a practical feature?

Apparently not...

Explanation:

I just heard back from the team and as it turns out, they can't eliminate the views contributors generate when viewing their own answers.

The tracking system is not set up to track unique visits, which is what would be needed in order to keep the number of times you view your own answers/contributions from being added to the total listed on the impact map.

Way back when they first set up the system, they decided to go with simplicity, i.e. fewer things to track, less data to store and manage, so they didn't implement unique visits for the impact maps.

In a nutshell, they don't have enough information to make the change.
