How do you use titration calculations to find pH?

1 Answer

You can use the concentration from a titration to find pH by using pH = -log[#H^(+)#]

If you find an unknown concentration of HCl is 0.1M, you would find the pH by finding -log(0.1). The pH here would work out to be 1. This works because HCl is a strong acid which will dissociate completely in water - all H+(aq) and Cl-(aq) with no HCl still bonded together.

You can also assume that all strong bases will dissociate fully. A 0.1M solution of NaOH will yield a pOH of 1.
pOH = -log[#OH^(-)#].

Because pH + pOH = 14, the pH for the second example would be 13.
