A volt is one Joule of energy per unit Coulomb of charge.

A volt is the unit used for electric potential, which is NOT the same as electric potential energy!

We find the voltage (elec potential) several ways:
$V = \frac{W}{q}$ $V = W/q$
W = work
q = charge

$V = Δ \frac{E}{q}$ $V= DeltaE/q$
