Upon adding equations $(1)$ $(1)$ and $(2)$ $(2)$ we can eliminate $3 y$ $color(red)(3y$ and find $x$ $x$

$8x-cancelcolor(red)(3y)=16$
$8x+cancelcolor(red)(3y)=-8$

$16x=8$
