An exothermic reaction is when a reaction releases heat.

Explanation:

Exothermic reaction usually occurs when bonds formed, in this case the formation of ice from water or water from water vapour.

A combustion reaction is a well known example for the exothermic process.

As for factors, there are only four factors in which you can speed up the reaction rate. This includes: -

  • The higher the concentration, the faster the reaction rate.

  • Heat increases a reaction rate

  • The amount of surface area there is for a reaction to react, A larger surface area results in a faster reaction rate

  • A catalysts speeds up a reaction rate.

Notice that all these factors increases the kinetic energy within the molecules, allowing them a higher chance of a collision with the right amount of energy and the correct orientation.
