Force is proportional to the acceleration it produces. The acceleration is even directed along the net force.
Explanation:
From Newton's second law, we know that
F = m a, where, F is the force, a the acceleration and m the mass of the particle under action of the force.
When force is applied on a body, it produces an acceleration by changing it's velocity.
