Solubility of substance in liquid solutions can be classified into two domains sparingly soluble and highly soluble.

Explanation:

The factors that effect the solubility of the substance is the

  1. Changing the Polarity of the solvent
  2. Temperature
  3. shifting the equilibrum by addition competing agent

Sodium chloride is highly soluble in water, whereas its solubility very very low in kerosene. This due to higher polarity of water as compared to kerosene since sodium chloride is polar compound. Whereas naphthalene is higher soluble in Kerosene as compared water since naphthalene non polar compound

Generally increase in temperature increases solubility. This principle is employed for making supersaturated solutions impure substance by increasing temperature followed filtering at higher temperature leaving the undissolved substance in residue, By cooling filtrate we get crystals of purified substance> For example preparation sugar from sugar cane juice

Silver chloride solubility is very less in sodium carbonate extract but by the addition of ammonium hydroxide silver chloride dissolves in solution. This explained
