You take the thermometer outside and it reads the temperature to be #100.00^oF#. The actual temperature is somewhere between #98.50^oF# and #101.50^oF#.

Or if the thermometer reads #50.00^oF# then the actual temperature is between #49.25^oF#and #50.75^oF#.

As you can see, each of them have a range of value given -1.5% to value given +1.5%..
