Some energy sources like coal are burn very dirtily. When burned it creates nasty smog that goes up into the atmosphere. This can create major health problems for us like asthma and such. Mining irresponsibly can cause bad changes in the soil. This is just one example that I know. Sorry I couldn't help you more!
