Solving using substitution:

Explanation:

-x + y = 5
y = 5 + x

6x + 3(5 + x) = -12

6x + 15 + 3x = -12

9x = -12 - 15

9x = -27

x = -3

Substitution -3 for x:

-(-3) + y = 5

y = 5 - 3

y = 2

The solution set is (-3,2)

Hopefully this helps. Below I have included three systems of equations including one linear-quadratic. Feel free to ask how to solve the linear quadratic system should you not know how.

a) 6x + 5y = -2
x - 8y = 13

b) 4x - 5y = 15
3x - 6y = -7

c) #x^2# + 12x = -y - 13
-2x - y = 4

Enjoy!
