During Full Moon, the Sun, Earth and Moon are disposed by this order forming an angle close to 180º.
During a quarter phase this angle is 90º.

Explanation:

As Earth and Moon don't move exactly in the same plane, the angle Sun, Earth,Moon is not exactly 180º. If it were like this, we would have a lunar eclipse every month.
