the quadratic formula is:
$x_{1, 2} = \frac{- b \pm \sqrt{b^{2} - 4 a c}}{2 a}$ $x_(1,2) = (-b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac))/(2a)$
$a = 1; b = - 3; c = 7$ $a= 1; b=-3; c=7$
If $\sqrt{b^{2} - 2 a c} < 0$ $sqrt(b^2-2ac)<0$ then you have an imaginary number.
