General principle : base + acid = salt + water
Explanation:
-
In a titration reaction, alkali falls drop by drop, from the burette to a given beaker containing acid.'
-
The beaker also contains an indicator. While the alkali falls from burette to the beaker containing acid, the beaker is constantly stirred. As soon, as all the acid is used up by the alkali, the alkali reacts with the indicator to illustrate a color change.
-
The burette tap is closed as soon as the slightest color change is seen and the amount of alkali required to neutralize a certain amount of acid is recorded.
-
This is called titration reaction; also known as, Neutralization reaction.
