xa×xb=xa+b

Explanation:

Exponents can be added when two of the same base are multiplied. That is, xa×xb=xa+b. For example:

  • 23×25=23+5=28

  • 51×51=51+1=50=1

  • 714×734=714+34=71=7

Note that this does not apply when the bases are different.
