To solve #3w-2u=12# and #w-u=60#

one has to find value of one variable in terms of another variable from one equation and then put it in other equation giving us value of another variable. This when put in first equation will give value of the other variable.

Here second equation #w-u=60# gives #w=60+u# in terms of #u# and putting this in first equation we get

or #180+3u-2u=12#

or #u=12-180=-168#

Hence #w=60-168=-108#
