Placenta previa is a condition of pregnancy where placental attachment is located in the lower segment of uterus. The placenta may even block internal os (opening) of cervix.
Explanation:
In case of placenta previa,
- vaginal bleeding occurs in last trimester of pregnancy and
- baby's head can not get fixed in cervical opening for natural birth.
In India, when child birth took place at home, both mother and child often perished during the process; mother due to blood loss, and child due to asphyxiation.
Theoretically natural birth in such situations is possible, but Doctors today do not take chances and opt for a C-section to avoid complications.
