Placenta previa is a condition of pregnancy where placental attachment is located in the lower segment of uterus. The placenta may even block internal os (opening) of cervix.

Explanation:

In case of placenta previa,

  1. vaginal bleeding occurs in last trimester of pregnancy and
  2. baby's head can not get fixed in cervical opening for natural birth.

In India, when child birth took place at home, both mother and child often perished during the process; mother due to blood loss, and child due to asphyxiation.

Theoretically natural birth in such situations is possible, but Doctors today do not take chances and opt for a C-section to avoid complications.
