The Digestive System is also known as the Alimentary Canal.
Beginning at the Mouth and ending at the Anus it is approximately a 30 foot tube that runs through the body.

Beginning at the Mouth and ending at the Anus it is approximately a 30 foot tube that runs through the body.
In actuality the food that is in the digestive tract is being prepared to enter the body, meaning that until the food is broken down and absorbed through the intestinal walls it is outside of the body.
Just as the hole of a donut is not actually part of the donut. The food in the tube is actually not part of the body.
