#"Solubility"# is a measure of how much of a substance will dissolve in a given volume of a fluid. The fluid is called the #"solvent"#, and that which dissolves is called the #"solute"#.

Explanation:

Water tends to be an excellent solvent for a variety of materials. Sugar, sodium chloride, ethanol, are each very soluble in water. In general the solubility of a solid tends to increase with increasing temperature. The solubility of a gas in a liquid tends to decrease with increasing temperature.
