#x + y = 18#
#x - y= 2#

#->y = 18 - x#

#x - (18 - x) = 2#

#x - 18 + x = 2#

#2x - 18 = 2#

#2x = 20#

#x = 10#

#:.10 + y= 18#

#y = 8#

Hence, the two numbers are #8# and #10#.
