Neutralization is the chemical reaction where an acid and base react to form water and a salt.

E.g. #HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq) -> NaCl (s) + H_"2"O (l)#

Explanation:

Neutralization is the chemical reaction where an acid and base react to form water and a salt. This results in a reset in the pH.

Only strong acids and strong bases react together to neutralize, likewise weak acids and weak bases.

Neutralization is also a double displacement reaction - #AB + CD -> CB + AD#

E.g. A strong reaction - #HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq) -> NaCl (s) + H_"2"O (l)#

E.g. A weak reaction - #H_"2"O (aq) + NH_"3" (aq) -> H_"3"O (aq) + NH_"4" (s)#
