The slope is the difference of the #y# values divided by the difference of the #x# values

Given these points #(-40.34, 5.5)# and #(0.34, 3.6)#

The first #y# value (#y_1#) is #5.5#

The second #y# value (#y_2#) is #3.6#

The first #x# value (#x_1#) is #-40.34#

The second #x# value (#x_2#) is #0.34#

#m=(Delta y)/(Delta x)=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)#

#color(white)m=(3.6-5.5)/(0.34--40.34)#

#color(white)m~~-0.0467#
