Humoral immunity is the aspect of immunity that is mediated by macromolecules found in extra cellular fluids such as secreted antibodies, complement proteins and certain anti microbial peptides.
Explanation:
Many of the infection causing bacteria multiply in the extra cellular spaces of the body. The humoral immune response causes the destruction of extra cellular micro organisms and prevent the spread of intra cellular infections.
Humoral immunity is so named because it involves substances found in humor or body fluids. It contrasts with cell mediated immunity. This includes Th2 activation and cytokine production, germinal centre formation and isotype switching, affinity maturation and memory cell generation.
