How much energy does the coronal mass ejection loose as it approaches a distance like the Earth's orbit?

It does not lose any energy as it approaches a distance.

Explanation:

A CME comes from a small portion of the sun but as it travels through space, since it is not focused, the distance between photons increases.

As can been seen from the figure above, the CME radiation is deflected, for the most part, by the earths electro-magnetic field. The amount of radiation arriving at the Earth varies with the size and placement of the CME and so there are many variables to consider with regard to just how much radiation reaches earth.
