Explanation:

The pressure in a liquid at a point is a function of the depth of water at that point. Pressure at a given depth is the same in all directions in a connected system (as in this case). Hence the level of the water surfaces would be the same (otherwise there would be a pressure difference due to the different heights and the water would move to correct this and bring it to equilibrium)
