While using communication over an optical fiber link, light is modulated by a radio frequency signal and transmitted using total internal reflection. The frequency of light waves is much higher than the signals used in wireless media.
As such first advantage is available bandwidth for carrying intelligence over the two media; higher in case of optical fiber transmissions.
Second technical advantage of using fiber optical transmission is lower transmission loss and reduced sensitivity to electromagnetic interference and noise.
Another advantage of above is that the radio signals can be transmitted over larger transmission distances. Thus, reducing the number of additional repeaters or amplifiers.
