How do you graph #y=1/3x-4# using intercepts?

The #y# intercept is when #x=0#

#y=1/3x-4# #=># #y=1/3(0)-4# #=># #y=-4#

When #x=0#, #y# is #-4#, so you have the point #(0,-4)#

The #x# intercept is when #y=0#

#y=1/3x-4# #=># #0=1/3x-4#

#1/3x=4# #=># #cancel(3*1/3)x=4*3#

#x=12#

When #y=0#, #x# is #12#, so you have the point #(12, 0)#

You have these two points, plot them in the graph and connect them by a straight line extended beyond them. By this you have done the graphing by using intercepts.
