Several federal agencies were set up to fix the crisis

Explanation:

Immediately after his election, FDR had several acts passed leading thus to the creation of numerous agencies that provided help to the poor. This policy was called the New Deal. These agencies included the CCC(Civilian Conservation Corps) , the NRA(National Recovery Agency started by the National Industrial Recovery Act), the Agricultural Adjustment Agency(started by the Agriculutural Adjustment Act) all provided help directly by providing jobs for instance(like the CCC)

Nevertheless direct relief was not really provided until the sixties with policies such as the Food Stamp.
