Constitutional isomers are those compounds which have the same molecular formula but different connectivity, whereas two compounds which are the same have the same molecular formula and the same connectivity.

Here is an example:

Both compounds above have the same formula, `C_3H_6`, but clearly they are not the same compound; the left is a cycloalkane, the right is an alkene.

Isomers by definition are chemical compounds that have the same formula but differ in their arrangement of atoms. There are several types.
