Atomic number increases by 1

Explanation:

During a beta decay, a neutron splits/transmutates into a proton and a beta particle(positron/anti-electron)
with the release of gamma rays. Beta particle is not present in nucleus, yet it is emitted from the nucleus because a neutron changes in to a proton, increasing atomic number by one. As a result of the decay an isobar of an element is formed.
Neutron-------: proton + beta particle + Gamma ray.
