Compounds are pure substances because they have only 1 type of molecule.Homogeneous mixtures are mixtures because they have different types of molecules mixed together,in proportion.

Explanation:

Let us take an example. Water is a compound because in a glass of (distilled)water there is only one type of molecule throughout. But say in Aqua Regia (3HCl+HNO3 both concentrated),the mixture has 2 different types of molecules mixed together,so it is a homogeneous mixture
