Explanation:
Each group has its own number of valence electrons assigned to it that stay constant as you go down the group. If you move onto another group, though, then the number of valence electrons will change.
Each 1A, 2A, 3A, etc. indicated the number of valence electrons per group. Notice how the number does change when you move around the groups.
