It allows for a better chance of survival chance for the population as a whole. Think of every person had blonde hair and a disease came through and killed every person with blonde hair everyone should be dead and our population would not continue. But if there is a mix of brown and red and blonde then if all the blonde people die the population as a whole will continue. Bacteria and asexually reproducing organisms have far less genetic diversity than sexually reproducing organisms like animals. Plants can usually do both.
