Pituitary gland works under the influence of hypothalamus. Then why the name master gland for pituitary?

Yes, you correctly pointed out a big thing,but what was the problem that discovery of hypothalamus occurred after pituitary was. As a result, initially it was considered as a master gland but discovery of hypothalamus did outway this concept showing its dependence on hypothalamus for releasing factors.
