Triangle DeltaABC is an isosceles right triangle. This means:

/_B=90^@

AB=BC=a

The Pythagorean formula says:

d^2=a^2+a^2

d^2=2a^2

a^2=d^2/2

a=d/sqrt2=(dsqrt2)/2

You can divide the diagonal by √2

Explanation:

Use pythogoras theroem
You get,
(side)^2 + (side)^2 = +(diagonal)^2
2(side)^2 = (diagonal)^2
sqrt[2(side)^2] = diagonal
sqrt2*side = diagonal
With this relation you can get what you want.
