This parabola will open upward:

Now flip the leading variable, here #x^2#. Basically, make it negative: #-x^2#. To make it flip exactly, multiply the function by #-1#.

So now we've got #f(x)=-x^2-4x-4#
This will open downward, and you've flipped it.
