Help me please ??

  1. Two kids pull in opposite directions on a toy of mass 0.544 kg. One exerts a force of 67.6 N and the other 12.6 N. Both pull horizontally and friction is negliglble.
    (f) Calculate the net force in the x-direction. (g) Calculate the normal force.
    (h) Calculate the net force in the y-direction.

From the free body diagram,we can say,

Net force acting horizontally, (67.6-12.6)=55N (along X axis)

As,the toy is not moving up or down,so it is at vertical equilibrium, So we can say N=mg=0.544*10=5.44N (N is the normal force)

So,net force along Y axis is zero.

55N, 0 or 5.33N, -5.33N or 0

Explanation:

Horizontal net force
(f) F_"x net"= 67.6 -12.6 = 55N.
The next force in the same direction of the stronger force.

(g) It depends. If the toy is not resting on anything, the normal force is zero. If it is resting on a desk or table while it is being pulled, then the desk pushes back with a normal force
N- mg = 0, rArr N=mg =0.544 kg * 9.8 m/s^2=5.33N

(h) If the toy is not resting on anything,

F_"y net"=-mg = -5.33N;

If the toy is resting on a desk, then F_"ynet"= N-mg = 5.33N-5.33N=0
