Most galaxies are spiral(milky way), elliptical, lenticular and irregular shape.
The first shape to be known was spiral because milky way is a spiral galaxy. Spiral galaxies look like pinwheel.
Elliptical galaxies are generally smooth and oval.
And some galaxies are neither spiral nor elliptical , they are irregular . Irregular galaxies are generally small in size.
