What does it mean to differentiate a function?

To differentiate something means to take the derivative.

Taking the derivative of a function is the same as finding the slope at any point, so differentiating is just finding the slope.

As you may know, that is usually denoted by either
#d/dx f(x) or f'(x) #.

The formula we use for this is
#(d)/dxf(x) = lim_{h rightarrow 0} (f(x+h) - f(x))/(h) #
